Question
When I try to create an automation policy that uses a report as a datasource, it will not let me save. Instead it shows this message:

Caption: The automation policy could not be saved. This report cannot be used in an automation action: The Domain, OS Platform, ComputerName parameters have no default value.

Note: In this case the Computers with Hardware Changes report was used as an example.

How can I get this report to work in an automation policy.

Answer
To get a report which has missing default parameters to work, you can follow this process:

  1. Clone the report (if it is a canned report)
  2. Edit the cloned report
  3. Open the Query Parameters tab and make sure all the listed parameters have a default value

  4. Open the Report Parameters tab and ensure that all the listed parameters have a default value that matches the Query Parameters tab.

  5. Hit Save Changes
  6. Go back to your Automation policy and select the modified report. It should save now.
