Question
Is there a timeout setting somewhere that may need to be increased to eliminate SQL Timeout errors?

What do I do when I get the error similar to:

Altiris Notification Server Error
The following error occurred on the page 'collection_summary.aspx':
or
The following error occurred on the page 'report_summary.aspx':
Request timed out.
Exception Trace:
System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.

Answer

Using the NS Configurator, change the following settings in the CoreSettings.Config file:

(Note: The CoreSettings.Config is located at InstallPath\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Config.  When you use the NS Configurator to change the setting, you don't have to stop and restart the Altiris Services on the Notification Server.)

ReportingCommandTimeout -- If reports are timing out, increase the value by 300.  If you find reports are still timing out, increase the value by another 300.
 
DbCommandTimout -- Keep this value synchronized with the ReportingCommandTimeout value.

(Note: the DbCommandTimeout setting in the CoreSettings.config file is the same setting as the Altiris Console > Server Settings > Notification Server Settings > Database Settings Command timeout field value.)

These changes are implemented immediately.  You do not need to restart services or reboot the computer to have the setting changes take effect.

Important: DO NOT change the machine.config file.
