Issue/Introduction

There are times when existing Altiris Agents (Symantec Management Agent) may need to be redirected to a new or alternate Notification Server (NS), also referred to Symantec Management Platform (SMP) server.  How can this be accomplished?

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Resolution

For full details, see:

How to Move or Migrate Management Agents from One Notification Server to Another

Summary:

Altiris Agents can be redirected to communicate with a new Notification Server by doing the following:

  1. From the Configuration tab on the old server, go to Configuration | Altiris Agent | Altiris Agent Configuration
  2. For each of the four configuration tasks list here go to the Advanced Settings tab and select "Specify an alternate URL for the Altiris Agent to use to access the NS",  and then provide the new server name.

If you're using HTTPS, you also need to Export the Communication Profile from the new NS and Import that on the old NS (as a new Communication Profile).  This allows the agents to talk to the new SMP over HTTPS (new certificate) when they get redirected.  The exact steps are included in the link above.

NOTE:  You may consider cloning one of these tasks to test this process on a few machines.
