Issue/Introduction

 

Resolution

In some rare cases, the on disk rules by Symantec Messaging Gateway for Service Providers (SMG-SP) may become corrupted or unreadable by the SMG-SP Brightmail Engine (bmserver) and will need to be reset to the default rule set that shipped with the software.

  1. Log into the SMG-SP system as root
  2. Move to the smg-sp installation directory
    cd /opt/symantec/smg-sp/Scanner
  3. Stop filtering services
    service mailwall stop
  4. Remove the installed rule sets
    rm -rf bm_ruleset.*
  5. Copy the default ruleset into place
    cp -rp etc/bm_ruleset.2.* .
  6. Start the filtering services
    service mailwall start
