Issue/Introduction

 Is  SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 15 supported?

Resolution

Initial testing performed by Symantec shows that a range of the Symantec IT Management Suite functionalities can be used to manage client computers that use SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 15.

The scope of support is limited to specific components and solutions as indicated below as well as version 8.x of the Symantec IT Management Suite. Additional limitations may apply. If so, they are listed under the known limitations section.

Symantec will issue a Full Support statement once the full testing of the new operating systems is performed and all the known limitations are addressed.

List of supported solutions

Symantec IT Management Suite provides support for the following client computers:
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 15
The Early Support functionality is limited to the following components and solutions of the IT Management Suite:
  • Symantec Management Agent for UNIX, Linux and Mac
  • Deployment Solution
  • Inventory Solution
  • Monitor Solution
  • Network Discovery
  • Software Management Solution
  • Virtual Machine Management Solution
  • Suite Portals

Note:

The components and solutions that are not explicitly listed above are not supported. The usage of those might lead to undesirable outcomes.

When you install the Symantec Management Agent for UNIX, Linux, and Mac on a SUSE 15 client computer, on Notification Server, the Linux version on Agent Install and Resource Manager pages is displayed as unknown.

When you create a Managed Software Delivery policy and in the Advanced options dialog box, on the Run tab, check the Prompt user before running: box, the prompt message is not displayed on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 15 client computer. N/A
When you create and run a task to restart the Xinetid Service (Time or Echo) on SUSE 15 client computers, the task fails. However when you run a Get status task for both services the result shows that the task is successfully completed. N/A
