Step by Step migration to a new server using CA BSI 8.2

This document is be used as a guide how to do the migration process to a new Server with CA BSI using the Best practices and the know-how, step by step.


Before we start this process step by step you have to have very clear, this document object is to change the CA BSI from one Server to another, but using all the same configuration and environment. NOTE you could change the Operating System version and the Oracle version on the new Server but you must have in mind that they must be the same version or newer version, in the number of Partition, size of this one must be the same or bigger and BSI must be the same version .

Pre requisites on the new Server:

We have to make sure that in the new Server we have all the Windows prerequisite, have the same Oracle version installed, configured and installed the same BSI version applying all the fix that server could have had applied in the past. This server must be working without any problem before we start.

In order to make this work, I will detail some of the things that you must have done:

  • Install all the Microsoft pre requisites
  • Install Oracle same version and fix (Some Sort order on both server) Very Important!!!!
  • Verify that the same configuration:

    • Oracle Listener
    • Oracle Net service Name
    • Verify that the Loopback install, if the NIC has its IP by DHCP
    • Verify that under the HOST file you have the IP and Server name Install BSI same version and fix if it has applied (Same Org name, in the same Disk drive and path)
  • Apply the Windows Update and verify that you apply the same fix on the other server
  • Only !! when you have finish the entire process of installing (Oracle and CA BSI) you should change the regional setting of the Server to the one you usually use.


General Best practices: 

Before you start any migration it is very recommended that the Server Source and Destination are backup in case of anything, it is all ways a good start to have this done before any migration or change so we can go back in case you do have any problem in the process. 

Backup Recommended 

  • The Oracle Database (Oblicore)
  • The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Oblicore
  • The directories where the Adapters are working
  • The directories where booklet templates are located


Under the new server verify that it is working: 

  1. Run the "tnsping" on the source and destination server to see if they respond and to the same name.
  2. Under the IE (internet Explorer) add the website "localhost" and Server_name to the trusted site list

  1. When you run this command you will verify that you can connect to the Oracle database, also find that User/[email protected] are the correct with this command

Run under DOS windows: 

  1. sqlplus /nolog
  2. conn oblicore/[email protected]
  3. select count(*) from t_log;

NOTE: You must have the Destination server working before you do anything with the migration.


Start the migration process:


We will start this migration on the Source server, with the next steps: 

Source BOX

  1. Copy the on to the Source Server and unzip in to the C:\, this should create a structure:
    a. C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\EXPORT
    b. C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\IMPORT
  2. Verify that all Oblicore Services are stopped and not working

  3. Under the directory C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\EXPORT we must run the OblicoreEXPORT.bat

    Under this screen you will have to put in the path where the Export software is:

Destination Server

  1. You must have the Server install with all the prerequisites for CA BSI
  2. You must install the Oracle using:

    1. It is recommended that you install the same version and in the same path.
    2. SID must be the same in the installation.
    3. Have the Sort order on the Oracle as in the source server Oracle
  3. You must install CA BSI on the server, it is recommended that you install in the same path, in order it to work once migrated.
  4. Verify that all the Oblicore Services are stopped

  5. Under the Oracle Server , the Oracle Net Manager, please verify that the configuration is set, under the Listeners (LISTENER) select the Database Services on the top of the GUI and on the Information should appear the information of the database, if this does not appear you will have to add the Database as in the Example:

  6. Copy Import & Export Scripts on to the server, under the C:\ImpExp_oblicore, so now you should have under the C:\ImpExp_Oblicore two directory's with their scripts

  7. Under C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\Import copy the zip file that was created in the Export in the Source Server. Once copied unzip all the files.
  8. Under the Directory C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\Import you will find two Batch files:

      1. Import_regular.bat (This batch will be used when in the Export you get only one file "OBLIOCRE_EXPORT.dmp or DAT" has part of the export process)

    1. OblicoreIMPORT.bat (this batch file will be use when in the Export process you get two files that where generated "OBLICORE_EXPORT.dmp or DAT and "OBLICORE_EXPORT.dmp_Ex_T_RAW_DATA_T_PSL_STRUC")
  9. Before running the batch file that will Import "import_regular.bat" or "OblicoreIMPORT.bat that you will have to modify in order to import the Data from the source. Please read the "READ_ME_FIRST.txt" for all the details, These are some of the things you should verify:


    set SYS_PASS=sys
    set OBLICORE_USER=oblicore
    set OBLICORE_PASS=oblicore
    set IMPORT_FILE_NAME=C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\Import\OBLICORE_EXPORT.dmp

    set SYS_PASS=sys
    set OBLICORE_USER=oblicore
    set OBLICORE_PASS=oblicore
    set IMPORT_FILE_NAME2=C:\ImpExp_Oblicore\Import\OBLICORE_EXPORT.dmp
  10. Only once you have choose the Batch file to run and have modified it, you are in conditions to run the batch file like in this screen:

  11. Once all the information has been migrated you need to be sure that you update the server name in the T_SYSTEM_CONFIGURATIONS table of the database.

    One easy way to update most of the settings is to run %OG_HOME%\setup\config_init.bat. This will read config_init.ini (which you should set correctly) and load those values in the database. It is recommended you still connect with sqldeveloper and run something like: select * from t_system_configurations where sys_config_value like '%old_name%';

    In order to check if there are other settings you need to update.
  12. Now you can restart the services and the website.
