Issue/Introduction

Resolution

With version 7.5.2 and later, SMSMSE now uses the version 5 Intelligent Updater (IU). To utilize the newest (Version 5) intelligent updater on older versions of SMSMSE, a patch must be applied to allow the older versions to recognize the definitions supplied by the newer IU. See Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5.1 and earlier will no longer be able to utilize version 4 (v4) Rapid Release (RR) or Intelligent Updater (IU) definition packages after April 15th, 2016.

For SMSMSE 7.9 and later see:  Update Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 7.9.x definitions using Intelligent Updater (IU).

To update SMSMSE definitions using the Intelligent Updater version 5:

1.   Download latest Intelligent Updater“<Date-rev>-core15v5i32.exe” via FTP or via HTTP.

2.   Open a command prompt as administrator, change directory into the location the Intelligent Updater was saved and run the following command:

<Date-rev>-core15v5i32.exe /Extract VIRSCAN.zip "C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Definitions\SymcData\VirusDefs32\incoming"

3.   Verify the the definitions are consumed by SMSMSE.  It may take up to 10 minutes for the SMSMSE console to display the new date.
