This article details how to add a passphrase user to the User Access list for Symantec Drive Encryption.

To add a Passphrase User

Windows - Single Sign-On user

  1. Open Symantec Encryption Desktop and click on the PGP Disk Control box.
  2. Click Encrypt Disk or Partition.
  3. In the list of available disks, select the disk or partition you want to encrypt.
  4. In the User Access section, select New Passphrase User. 
  5. Click Use Windows Password.
  6. Select Proceed with Passphrase Authentication only and click Next.
  7. Type your Windows user name, domain, and password, and click Next.
  8. Click Finish.

If you choose the Use Windows Password option, after initial encryption, use your Windows password when the PGP BootGuard screen is displayed at the start of booting. The PGP Single Sign-On (SSO) feature logs into Windows for you only need to type your passphrase once. 


Create New Passphrase user

  1. Open Symantec Encryption Desktop and click on the PGP Disk Control box.
  2. Click Encrypt Disk or Partition.
  3. In the list of available disks, select the disk or partition you want to encrypt.
  4. In the User Access section, select New Passphrase User. 
  5. Select New Passphrase User. 
  6. Select Create New Passphrase, then click Next.
  7. Select Proceed with Passphrase Authentication only and click Next.
  8. In the Create Username and Passphrase dialog box, type a name for the Username.
  9. Type a passphrase for your user account.
  10. Type the passphrase again in the Confirm field and click Next.
  11. Click Finish.
