Resolution

Download the software

  1. Log into the Symantec.Cloud portal at https://clients.messagelabs.com
  2. Select Configuration > Web Security Services > Tools > Roaming Agent Software (If you have not yet been provisioned with the SmartConnect service, this link will not be available.)
  3. Select the Click here to download button
  4. Download the installation file SmartConnectSetup.msi (The license key for the agent software is displayed on this page in the Symantec.cloud portal; you will need this key when you install the agent software on users' computers.)

 

Configure the installation

The agent comes with an example configuration file (agentconfigure-example.xml) that can be copied to agentconfigure.xml and edited with your requirements.

Most organizations will be able to configure a single version of this file for use on all computers, to be copied into the installation directory after the software has been installed.

Normal Installation

  1. Double-click the file SmartConnectSetup.msi
  2. Click Next to install the Agent software.
  3. The default installation folder will be: C:Program FilesSymantec Hosted ServicesSmartConnect
  4. Start the MessageLabs Smart Connect service
  5. Verify the installation.

The details for how to deploy the software using an automated installation will depend on your usual method for performing this type of installation.

  1. Run the command msiexec /quiet /i SmartConnectSetup.msi
  2. Once the agent has been installed, copy your edited agentconfigure.xml configuration file into the installation directory:
