Resolution

When processing a cube it fails with an error: elapsed time expired Timeout. Here are a few settings that can be altered to help with Timeouts around cube processing.

-First is the SQL Server properties, through management studio log into the database engine.

Next select the top-level instance engine and go to propeties. Scroll down to the Connections pane and alter the value under Remote Server Connections.

-Analysis Server properties, through management studio log into the Analysis service.

Next select the top-level instance engine and go to properties.

On the General tab you can scroll down to fine the ServerTimeout value, if this is not shown you'll need to check the Box at the bottom of the general Pane for Show Advanced (All properties).

 

 -rsReportserver.config file, By default located at C;/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSRS10_50MSSQLSERVER/ReportingServices/ReportServer/ rsReportserver  on the SQL Server hosting Reporting services.

Look for the DatabaseQueryTimeout and alter, default value is set to 120 seconds a value of 0 specifies an unlimited wait time and therefore is not recommended.

You can also alter Dataset query timeout and Report execution timeout if needed.
