How to Install Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage Edition version 8.2.1 (Management Console)

The following document is the step by step procedure to install the Management Console for Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage Edition (SEE-RS) version 8.2.1 in a managed environment. This document assumes that you have completed the installation of the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server (SEEMS) and completed the SEEMS Configuration Manager Wizard. If you have not yet completed this, see the following link for instructions. HOWTO102670

The SEE-RS Management Console will allow you to create client installer packages to be deployed to client machines, as well as other Management Features. These Instructions may be used to install the Management Console on the SEE Management Server itself, or a supported Manager Computer.

The following files will be needed to complete the SEE Management Console installation. Please choose the appropriate architecture for your machine.

Install Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework:
NOTE: This step may be skipped if you have already completed the SEE Framework install as part of the "Full Disk Edition" installation. HOWTO102608

 

1. Select and Double-Click the appropriate “Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework.msi” (Select the 64-bit version if needed)

2. The InstallShield Wizard will load, Click Next...

 

 

3. Read the “Symantec Endpoint Encryption Multi-Factor Authentication” message, Click Next…

 

 

4. Read and Accept the License Agreement. Print if needed, Click Next…

 

 

5. Select appropriate Token support, if required. Click Next...

  • If you are NOT using Token Authentication, please select “None (password authentication only).”  
  • Selecting a Token will enable Token Authentication support as well as Password Authentication during client package creation.
  • NOTE: Only one token type may be chosen at a time during the framework installation.  If multiple token support is needed, then another token type can be selected on an additional management console installation.

 

 

6. Choose your Destination Folder, Click Next...

 

 

7. Configure Database Server, Click Next...

    A. Specify the location of the Microsoft SQL Server Instance that will host the SEE database. Use one of the following methods to specify the Database Instance:
    • Click the arrow in the "Database Instance" text box, and choose the instance form the list if shown.
    • Click Browse, to browse known Database Servers on your Network, choose the instance if shown.
    • Type the NetBIOS name of the instance, e.g. "SEEDB-01." If it is a Named Instance, you must also include the instance. e.g. "SEEDB-01\SQLExpress"
    B. If required, Check "Enable TLS/SSL" to encrypt all communications between the Management Console and the Database Instance. This must be configured within SQL Server ahead of time.
    C. If required, Check "Custom Port Number" to communicate with the database over a custom port number. If your SQL Server is listening on a non-default port, you can specify the port being used here. This will need to be configured within SQL Server ahead of time.
    D. Choose the Authentication method to be used to connect to the database. 
    • Choosing Windows authentication will use your currently logged-in Windows user account.
    • Choosing SQL authentication will allow you to specify a SQL account to be used.  

NOTE: Selecting "Use SEE Server" will make this a “Managed” installation. If you would like an Un-Managed Installation, please follow this link HOWTO101975

 

 

8. Set and Confirm your management password, Click Next...

  • This management password will be required for performing duties such using the SEE Help Desk program users that forget their passwords and creating an OTP client installation file. Please store your management password in a safe place!
  •  The management password can be changed at a later time by using the SEE management console snap-in.

 

 

9. Click Install... 

 

 

10. After the installation completes, Click Finish...

Install Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage Edition:

 

1. Select and Double-Click the appropriate “Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage Edition.msi” (Select the 64-bit version if needed)

Verify Successful Install:

 

1. Open the “Symantec Endpoint Encryption Manager,” by going to Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Encryption Manager… 

2. Expand “Symantec Endpoint Encryption Software Setup,” and verify that both Framework and Removable Storage are there.
Note: You may also see Full Disk here as well if you have already installed it.
