On October 6th, Symantec introduced Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11. This solution blends best-of-breed technologies from our PGP Corporation and GuardianEdge Technologies acquisitions into a single console that includes strong disk and removable media encryption along with out-of-the-box reporting and enterprise-scale management.
If you are an existing drive, endpoint, and removable media encryption customer, you are entitled to this license at no additional charge, provided you are current on your maintenance contracts and your previous licenses have been rolled into the new one for purposes of simplicity and organization. Please note that no products have been discontinued with this announcement and you are free to operate in managed and unmanaged environments.
If you are not yet ready to switch to this new offering, you can continue using your existing disk encryption solutions from Symantec with the knowledge they will work in the same environment with Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11. We encourage you to reach out to your sales teams for more information in addition to emails you should have received detailing the changes.
No products were discontinued and you are not required to alter your current implementation.
To simplify your migration experience, we have grouped the following license categories and products into a single license, Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11. These individual licenses will no longer be available for purchase and you should purchase Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11 to obtain any of the following functionality.
Customers with current maintenance contracts of any of the previous licenses have been automatically migrated on a 1:1 ratio to the new license.
Example
Old Licenses | Quantity |
Symantec Drive Encryption | 100 |
Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage Edition | 100 |
New Licenses | Quantity |
Symantec Endpoint Encryption | 200 |
Migrated customers are entitled to all products contained within the new Symantec Endpoint Encryption license at no additional cost.
Please Note:
In addition to providing the ability to run Symantec’s new Endpoint Encryption offering along with its management platform, you are also entitled to run Symantec Drive Encryption and its accompanying management platform, Symantec Encryption Management Server, as well as old versions of Symantec Endpoint Encryption Full-Disk Edition. Both new and old versions of Endpoint Encryption can be managed by the new management platform however Drive Encryption will continue to be managed by Encryption Management Server.
All of these products have been rolled into the license of Symantec Endpoint Encryption.
Existing Endpoint Encryption 8.2.x Customers
Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.0 allows for an in-place upgrade of Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server, allowing customers to manage their existing Symantec Endpoint Encryption 8.2.x clients as well as deploy and manage new Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11 clients.
For information on how to upgrade, see http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7715
Existing Drive Encryption Customers
Existing Symantec Drive Encryption 10.3 (formerly PGP Whole Disk Encryption) customers cannot migrate directly to the new Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.0 product. At this time, we recommend parallel deployment of Drive Encryption on existing implementations of Encryption Management Server along with a new installation of Endpoint Encryption 11 for new implementations through attrition as new systems are brought online.
How to Use Additional Licenses
Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server is able to pull and report on Symantec Drive Encryption Whole Disk Recovery Tokens (WDRTs) from Encryption Management Server. Furthermore, existing Symantec Drive Encryption customers can still take advantage of the file-based Removable Media Encryption capabilities of the Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.0 product. For information on how to send WDRTs from the Encryption Management Server to the Endpoint Management Server, see http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO101720
