Smart replies allow you to:

  • Automatically update your server if you have forwarded or replied to an email message on your device
  • Forward attachments without having to first download them to your SD card

The tradeoffs are:

  • Replies are sent in text only, not in HTML
  • In Exchange 2003, replies and forwards are sent as attachments
  • Does not work in Lotus Notes - (Lotus limitation in EAS implementation)
  • Threads are usually shortened or cut off

I hope this information helps you decide which option works best for you and your business needs. You can easily disable smart replies from the TouchDown advanced settings menu by checking the box marked "disable smart replies" and saving changes.

NOTE: If you edit inline, the message will no longer be a smart reply and will strip any attachments.
