Issue/Introduction

Unable to upgrade SEP on Win Vista 64 bit Machine.

Symptoms
Unable to remove existence Symantec endpoint protection from Add remove programs or Windows installer cleanup utility or using the clean wipe utility.


Cause

Seems to be an issue with windows installer service.

Resolution

Go to Registry (Click Start > Run > Type Regedit)
  1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer.
  2. Change the value for WOW64 from 1 to 0.
  3. Restart the Windows Installer service
  4. Go to Start > Run > Type Services.msc
  5. Right Click on Windows Installer Service and select Restart
  6. Restart the Computer.
