Issue/Introduction

You would like to know which operating systems have been tested and certified/supported for installation of the SSIM client.

 

Resolution

Symantec™ Security Information Manager (SSIM) 4.6 Installation Guide list the requirements on page 14:

 

To install and run the Symantec Security Information Manager console, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:
• Windows 2000 Workstation,
  Windows 2003,
  Windows XP Professional,
  Vista, if you are running Vista, you will also need to have JRE 6.0 or higher installed.
• Minimum screen resolution setting of 1024 x 768 (1280 x 1024 recommended)
• 103 MB disk space
• 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
• Connection to the same network as the appliance

Symantec™ Security Information Manager 4.7 Installation Guide list the requirements on page 14:
 

To install and run the console for the Symantec Security Information Manager client, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:
• Windows 2000,
  2003,
  XP Professional,
  Windows Vista
• Minimum screen resolution setting of 1024 x 768. A setting of 1280 x 1024 is recommended.
• 103-MB of available disk space
• 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
• Connection to the same network as the Information Manager Server.

Note for SSIM 4.7.4 GUI Client Only (this does not apply to 4.6):

For Windows 2008 :The SSIM client may install and correctly function on Windows 2008 but this has not been fully tested or QA'd by the SSIM development team. If you are having issues with the client on Windows 2008 then you will need to install it on one of the supported Windows operating systems. 
 

For Windows 7: Symantec tested the running of the SSIM Client on Windows 7 for the following platforms:

• Windows 7 Enterprise 32 Bits
• Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits

Note: Make sure you have administrator privileges on the local machine.
