Issue/Introduction

Anti-spam rule updates may be delayed and you see certificate errors in the conduit logs.

18 Nov 2009 23:59:01 (ERROR:5169.3085096640): [12034] Network error occurred, SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK (60), check your network connection settings, check your proxy settings (if applicable), and check to ensure that port 443 (HTTPS) is open through any relevant firewalls.

Cause

Symantec is rolling out an updated set of SSL certificates to the ruleset download servers and very old versions of the SMS 8200 software do not recognize the new certificate as valid. This results in a failure to download the updated anti-spam rules.

Resolution

This issue only effects very old versions of the Symantec Mail Security software. Customers experiencing this issue are urged to upgrade to a supported release as soon as possible.

Please see http://uscu-notes.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/docid_preview/2009073118500454?Open&seg=ent for further information on the change to the SSL certificates and how to update affected versions of the software.
