Unable to locate virus definition folder

Issue/Introduction

When you issue the command to load nntask, you see entries on the Domino server that says "unable to locate virus definition folder"

 

Resolution

Check usage.dat file
On windows: C:\Program files\common files\Symantec Shared\Virus Defs
Linux,Solaris,AIX,OS400: /opt/Symantec/virusdefs/
- If there are no entries for SMSDOM you can either reinstall the product or copy a valid SMSDOM setting from another usage.dat file from another server.
 

Here is an example of the usage.dat file for SMSDOM 8:

[20091203.004]
SMSDOM_8.0=1
SMSDOM_8.0_UPDATE=1
 

 

Here is an example of the usage.dat file for SMSDOM-MPE 3.2:

[20081209.055]
SAV_DOMINO_30_UPDATE=1
SAV_DOMINO_30=1

If using the above example you also have to change the 20091203.004 so that it matches your current virus definitions. This should also match the setting for CurDefs in the definfo.dat file. If the variables are not in the file as expected, the file can be amended appending the variables at the end of the file.
