Issue/Introduction

While trying to reboot the Symantec Brightmail Gateway Appliance the boot sequence hangs at starting the LDAPsync daemon

Cause

This is usually caused by a corrupt LDAPsync database. The LDAP syncdata needs to be cleared.

Resolution

On version 8.x

How to clear the syncdata when the appliance hangs on bootup:
1. Use an SSH client such as putty to remotely connect to the appliance.
Connect to the inbound IP on port 22. Select SSH as the protocol.
2. Login as admin
3. Run the "clear syncdata" command.
4. Run the "reboot" command.

On version 9.x
1. Use an SSH client such as putty to remotely connect to the appliance.
Connect to the inbound IP on port 22. Select SSH as the protocol.
2. Login as admin
3. Run the "delete ddsdata" command. (This deletes all Directory Data Service data)
4. Answer "yes" to the prompt

5. Run the "reboot" command.

If issues continue, there may be corruption in the Brightmail Gateway.  This can be caused by failed upgrades, or unexpected power outages.  Please contact support for additional diagnostic work if unable to restore from a backup copy of the database or the virtual machine.

Additonal Considerations:

- If this is a virtual machine, please make sure it meets the minimum virtual machine requirements:
