Issue/Introduction

You wish to restore a db-backup made on a physical Symantec Brightmail Gateway (SBG)/ Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) appliance to a virtual appliance.

Resolution

With the release of version 8, SBG/SMG can restore a backup made on a physical appliance onto a virtually deployed appliance running the same OS version and build as the physical one.
It is also possible to restore a physical appliance from a virtual appliance.

NOTE: In order to correctly restore the backup to the target appliance customers must ensure the following:

1. Both the physical SBG/SMG appliance and the virtual SBG/SMG appliance must be running the same OS version and build.
2. Both the physical SBG/SMG appliance and the virtual SBG/SMG appliance must be using the same hostname and same IP configuration.
3. Both the physical SBG/SMG appliance and the virtual SBG/SMG appliance must have the date and time match.
