Scan Engine

Issue/Introduction

You begin an installation of Scan Engine at the command line interface (CLI) of a Linux operating system. Instead of completing, the installation reports the following error: "./ScanEngine.sh: fork: Cannot allocate memory". You seek steps for resolving or troubleshooting this error.

Cause

There is not enough free memory for the installation to extract and install Scan Engine 5.x.

Resolution

  1. Close any un-needed X Windows applications, stop any un-needed daemons, and terminate any un-necessary processes.
  2. If symptoms persist, use the Linux free command to confirm that you have enough memory to meet the System Requirements for Scan Engine 5.x
  3. If needed, add memory.

To check memory with the Linux free command

  • At the CLI, type:
    free
