Issue/Introduction

Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Backup Exec for Windows Servers 11d including CPS - Continuous Protection Server on the same Server.

Symptoms
This article would be applicable in the following scenarios:

  1. Need to install Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers 11d including CPS - Continuous Protection Server on the same server where Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is Installed.
  2. Need to install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on the same server where Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers 11d including CPS - Continuous Protection Server is installed.

Cause

By Default Port 8443 is used for both Web Restore Server Component (https) of Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server in Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers 11d and Server Port for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Resolution

Warning: For change in server port in case of Multiple Symantec Endpoint Protection Managers, we would have to delete the existing replication partners and re-add them with the changed server port for the consoles to replicate data successfully.

To correct the port conflict, follow the steps below on the SEPM server:

  1. Click Start > Program Files > Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
  2. Run the Management Server Configuration Wizard.
  3. Select Reconfigure the management server.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Change the Server port to an unused port, for example, 8444 may be unused.
  6. Continue through the remaining reconfiguration steps and re-enter the password for Database server.
  7. When the Management Server Configuration Wizard has completed, restart the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service.

This should not affect the communication between the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and SEP clients.
