Mail Security for Domino

Issue/Introduction

You have a Domino Server 8.5 using DAOS (Domino Attachment and Object Service) and you have deployed Symantec Mail Security for Domino on it.
You want to know if Symantec recommends specific settings to use in such environment.

Resolution

Please follow the steps below to configure Symantec Mail Security for Domino on a Domino Server using DAOS:

  1. Open the Symantec Mail Security for Domino Settings database
  2. Under Configuration->Autoprotect->’Ignore the following server processes’, add daosmgr to the list
  3. Under Configuration->Inclusions/Exlusions, add daoscat.nsf to the list

Technical Information

If the daosmgr process is loaded, please treat it as if it always enabled. The following excerpt from the Domino wiki explains why:
“Once a Domino server has DAOS enabled, and NSFs are selected to participate in DAOS, their attachments are stored in the DAOS repository. If DAOS is subsequently disabled, the attachments that were in DAOS remain in DAOS until they are re-integrated into the NSF. Any DAOS references that remain in the NSF will continue to be serviced by DAOS, even if it is disabled.”
