Issue/Introduction

After installing Symantec Mail Security for Domino 8.0.X, Domino crashes at startup with the Error 'SMSDOM Panic: Unable to create Log directory' appearing in the Domino console log

Symptoms
  • Before the crash, the Domino console reports the following error 'SMSDOM Panic: Unable to create Log directory'.
  • There were no Errors during the installation of the software
  • The SAV.NSF and SAVLOG.NSF files cannot be found in the >\Lotus\Domino\data\SAV directory
  • The NSD file created upon the crash shows the Nserver task as the Fatal Thread

Cause

The Domino DataPath Registry key points to the wrong location, causing the startup of the Symantec Mail Security for Domino tasks to fail.

Resolution

The Domino DataPath needs to be correctly set before installing Symantec Mail Security for Domino.
