When the Symantec Scan Engine service is started the following Application Event log error will appear:
When you start the service manually, you receive,
"Could not start the Symantec Scan Engine service. Error 1053, the service did not respond to a star control in a timely fashion."
"Faulting application symcscan.exe, version 5.2, faulting module unknown, fault address 0x00000000"
This issue can occur if the Symantec Scan Engine service is running under an account that does not have the appropriate permissions.
If Symantec Scan Engine is not using the Local System account, make sure the account Scan Engine is using is a local Admin.
