How to assign a policy to a specific group in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Issue/Introduction

How do you assign a policy to a single group or set of groups without having to assign it to the parent group?

 

Resolution

In order to be able to assign a policy to a specific group in the SEPM you must first disable "Policy Inheritance" for that group.

In order to accomplish this please follow these steps:

• Login to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console
• Select the Clients button
• Select the Policies tab in the right pane
• Select the Client Group you want to turn Policy Inheritance off for in the left pane
• Uncheck "Inherit policies and settings from parent group <GroupName>"

You will now be able to assign the policy to this specific group without having to assign it to a parent group.
