Issue/Introduction

  • You do not have access to the Brightmail Control Center and want to verify the default gateway on a Symantec Brightmail Gateway
  • You want to temporarily change the default gateway to connect to the server.

 

Environment

Resolution

To verify the default gateway:

  1. Log into the console as the admin account
  2. Type: route and press enter
  3. The output will look similar to:

    Kernel IP routing table
    Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
    192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
    169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
    default 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth
    0

Note: The change is not persistent across reboots and will be reset at the next appliance restart. It would be best if you used the Command Center interface to make permanent changes.
