Issue/Introduction

Unable to uninstall SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager) on Windows 2008 Server or Windows 2008 Small Business Server

Error 1321: The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Program files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tomcat\Conf\server.xml

Cause

Proper permissions are not being passed to the installer to allow the removal to complete.

 

Resolution

Using the Symantec Endpoint Protection install media, browse to the SEPM folder. Right-click the setup.exe in this folder and Run as Administrator. This will elevate the installer and allow proper removal.

 

Workarounds:

Temporarily disable 'User Access Control' in Control panel.

OR

Add 'Everyone' with full control to server.xml located in "C:\Program files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tomcat\Conf\server.xml"
