About Symantec Mail Security 8.0 for Domino
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To more closely align all of Symantec's products that support the Domino sever, the
product version number for Symantec Mail Security for Domino has moved from version
7.5 to 8.0. For customers under strict change controls, version 8.0 is the follow-on
release to 7.5.

Installing Mail Security on a configured Domino server
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can only install Mail Security on a Domino server that has been configured.

Updating definitions for multiple Symantec products
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You must configure Mail Security to perform definition updates if you are running
more than one Symantec product on a computer. Definitions are stored in a
shared Symantec definitions directory, which each Symantec product accesses to gain
the most current definitions.

Supported WebSphere locales
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Symantec Mail Security supports WebSphere portals for English
only.

SHARED_MAIL= setting in notes.ini
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Symantec Mail Security works with the SHARED_MAIL=1 setting
in the notes.ini file. If you set SHARED_MAIL=2, Symantec Mail
Security will not function correctly.

Native MIME encoded document limitations
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The limitations on documents that are stored in native MIME format are
as follows:

* When an attachment is deleted from a document that is native MIME encoded,
no text is added around the icon in the document.

* Documents that are released from quarantine are converted to Lotus Notes rich
text format.

* Documents that are x.509 signed can be modified even when the Repair signed
documents option is set to No on the Threat/Security Risk > Actions tab.

* When you configure Symantec Mail Security to delete an email message
attachment because it contains a violation, after the attachment is
deleted, the email message is sent to the intended recipient. If the recipient
opens the email message using an Outlook Express client, the email message
might be corrupted.

Mail router rules in Domino 7.x and above
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Interaction with content filtering rules:
Symantec Mail Security content filtering rules take precedence
over Domino mail router rules. (Mail router rules that are
configured "Don't accept message" are not affected.)

* Interaction with virus protection:
Symantec Mail Security auto-protect settings take precedence
over Domino Mail router rules. (Mail router rules
that are configured "Don't accept message" are not affected.)

Mail journaling in Domino 7.x and above
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Interaction with content filtering rules:
Symantec Mail Security content filtering rules take precedence
over Domino mail router rules, even when the
Domino mail router rules specify to Journal the message.

* Interaction with risk protection:
Symantec Mail Security auto-protect settings take precedence
over Domino Mail router rules, even when the
Domino mail router rules specify to Journal the message.

Configuring the Notes client to function with the Symantec
Mail Security disclaimer feature
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To ensure that the Symantec Mail Security disclaimer
feature functions properly, set the following options:

1. In the Notes client, edit the Location document.
2. On the Mail tab, in the Format for messages addressed to Internet
addresses field, modify the setting to Notes Rich Text Format.
When the value of this option is set to MIME, Symantec Mail Security
will not add a disclaimer to the message body.

A disclaimer will not be added to email messages within the same
Domino mail domain. Disclaimers with same disclaimer mark will be only
applied to an email once.

Blocking attachments (based on Microsoft recommendations)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can create a content filtering rule to block specific types of document
attachments. Microsoft suggests that the following file name extensions
could be potential mass-mailer files:

ade, adp, app, bas, bat, chm, cmd, com, cpl, crt, exe, hlp, hta, inf,
ins, isp, js, jse, lnk, mdb, mde, msc, msi, msp, mst, pcd, pif, reg,
scr, sct, shb, shs, url, vb, vbe, vbs, vsd, vss, vst, vsw, ws, wsc, wsf, wsh

An entire container file is deleted when a subcomponent is deleted

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mail Security might delete an entire container file when it deletes a subcomponent
that contains a violation. This happens because Mail Security is unable to reconstruct
the container file after a subcomponent is deleted. This can occur with MSI files
and RAR archive files.

An empty row appearing at the top in all embedded views of SMSDOM setting database
E.g. in Content Filtering or Scheduled scan view
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem may be noticed when following steps are performed on Domino versions 8.0.2 onwards.
1. Go to CF->Rules tab
2. Click on the 'red-cross'of any disabled rule, with the purpose to enable that rule.
3. Scroll bar appears in the view as an outcome of executing step 2 above. Scroll down the view completely.

This is a Domino issue and in order to resolve it you need to refresh the page,
which will make the empty row disappear.

Enabling Definition management for Rapid Release feature on non-Windows platform
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The definition files downloaded through Rapid Release (RR) can be saved to Definition database.
Since RR downloads definitions with an average size of 70-80 MB approximately every hour,
the size of the Definitions database increases rapidly leading to some marked
consequences on non-Windows platforms. This increase may result in corruption
of the Definitions database.

So for saving the definition set on the database, perform the following steps on
non-Windows platform.
1. Ensure that the soft file size limit is set to minimum 4GB for Notes User on
the UNIX operating system.
For example, the block size is 512 bytes on an AlX computer. The file size
parameter can be set to 4GB by using the following command.
ulimit -f 8388608, where 8388608 is total number of 512 byte blocks
2. For enabling the purge agent, perform steps 3 - 5.
3. On the Action bar, click Set Purge Options.
4. Type the number of most recent definition sets to save, including an active
definition. The default setting is 5.
5. In the purge Options dialog box, click EnablePurgeAgent to enable the agent.
Purging alone does not reduce the physical size of the database on the disk. This
constraint is faced on Domino and makes running of compaction mandatory to
reduce the database size on the disk. You can enable compaction by setting the
compact task in the notes.ini.

To set the compact task, include the following in the notes.ini file.
ServerTasksAt<Time>=compact -B sav/savdefs.nsf, where Time is any value
suitable to your environment.
For example, to run the compaction daily at 4 AM over savdefs.nsf, put the entry
in notes.ini as
ServerTasksAt4=compact -B sav/savdefs.nsf

Compatibility with Symantec Endpoint Security (SEP) on 64-bit Windows machine
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On any 64-bit windows machine, when you want to run Symantec Endpoint Security product
on the same machine where you are planning to install Mail security,
for coexistence of both the products, follow the installation sequence as mentioned below.

- First install Symantec Endpoint Security and then Mail security for Domino

Error messages:
********************************************************************************

"No Document in that direction!" when trying to view a content filtering
violation document
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you click the View Content Violations button from the Quarantined
Document or the Backup Document, you might receive the following error message:
"No Document in that direction!"

This issue occurs under the following conditions:
1. In the Log database, in the Incidents view, you open a content filtering rule
violation document.
2. You click the link that takes you to the document in the Quarantine database.
3. In the Quarantined Document, you click View Content Violations.

To view the content violation, access the Quarantined document from the
Quarantine database. On the action bar, click View Content violations.

"Attempt to create duplicate template rejected" on the Domino server console
after installing Symantec Mail Security for Domino
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first time that you start a Domino server after you install Symantec
Mail Security, you may see messages on the Domino server
console similar to the following:

"Attempt by <servername> to create duplicate template Symantec
Mail Security for Domino Settings 8.0 in database
<Domino data directory path>\sav\sav.nsf - rejected."

"Attempt by <servername> to create duplicate template Symantec
Mail Security for Domino Quarantine 8.0 in database
<Domino data directory path>\sav\savquar.nsf - rejected."

"Attempt by <servername> to create duplicate template Symantec
Mail Security for Domino Log 8.0 in database <Domino data
directory path>\sav\savlog.nsf - rejected."

Lotus has acknowledged that this is a defect in Domino. These error
messages can be ignored.

"Invalid or nonexistent document" or "Unable to create document" when trying to
open 'Graphical Reports'.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you click the 'Graphical Reports' link from navigation pane, you might receive
this error. This issue occurs under the following conditions:

1. After upgrading to Symantec Mail Security 8.0 for Domino, the first time you
open any Symantec Mail Security for Domino database and click 'Graphical
Reports' link from navigation pane without opening any other view or document.

2. After uninstalling any previous version of Symantec Mail Security for Domino and
installing Symantec Mail Security 8.0 for Domino, the first time you open any
Symantec Mail Security for Domino database and click 'Graphical Reports'
link from navigation pane without going anywhere else in UI.

This issue is due to Domino not being able to update the cache of design elements.
This error occurs only first time after you open the database and can be ignored.
Under this circumstance to access Graphical Reports, open some other view or
document and then try reopening Graphical Reports.

"Main Error 4000: Notes Error: Unable to extend an ID table -
insufficient memory."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might receive this error message when you generate a graphical report or a
custom query. Reduce the scope of your query (for example, shorten the reporting
period), and then re-run the graphical report or custom query again.

"Error 1307. There is not enough disk space to install the file: <filename>.
Free some disk space and click Retry, or click Cancel to exit."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a Windows Installer issue. Windows Installer needs sufficient disk space
to rollback the installation or upgrade if the user cancels the operation.

This error message appears when all of the following occur:
* You upgrade or install Mail Security.
* You choose not to keep the one or more of the Mail Security databases.
* The databases that you choose not to keep are large compared to the free
disk space on the root drive.

If you receive this error message, do any of the following:
* Free some disk space by removing unwanted files from the hard drive.
* Use the Windows Disk Cleanup wizard to create more available disk space.
* Uninstall Mail Security (choose to keep the databases), and then manually
delete the databases.

".\<filename>.tmp:Unknown error number" while shutting down the server
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This situation might arise when you shutdown the Domino server, the Domino console
displays -"Server Shutdown Complete.", but still the console stays on.
At this point, if you manually try to close the console window, this error message may
appear on the console, before the console window closes.

This is due to Rapid Release being in progress,
while Domino server is shutting down. At this stage,
Rapid Release tries to abruptly terminates FTP session in the middle,
as a result of which this error surfaces. But since the error doesn’t affect any functionality,
it can be safely ignored.

"AMgr: Agent ('<AgentName' in <DatabaseName>) error message: Error loading USE or USELSX module:Libraryname"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem may be seen if you try to run agent from SMSDOM database
e.g. when executing the agent 'RemoveOldDocs' from sav/savquar.nsf
The issue occurs in cases where the signer of the script library
does not have the correct rights to execute on the Domino server,
and/or the script library has not been signed.

To fix this behavior, using the Domino Administrator client,
you can sign Agents that will additionally sign the Script Libraries.

1. Select Files > Open Server, and specify Local or a desired server.
2. Switch to the Files tab.
3. Select the database from the list.
4. In the right-hand pane, select Tools > Database > Sign.
5. For the dialog's "What do you want to sign?" property, select the choice "All Documents of Type",
and then the choice "Agents".

"Invalid or nonexistent document" error message popup when trying to open replicated database.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This error occurs when SMSDOM database replication is enabled across the servers
as in case of server groups. After the replication, when you try to open replicated SMSDOM
database on the other server, this error might be seen.

To overcome the issue, open the replicated database by pressing Ctrl+O only for the first time.
Later on, everything works correctly as usual.

"A view of that name can not be found" - encountered while installing
Spam Foldering Agent on Lotus Domino/Notes 8.5
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This error is encountered while installing the Spam Foldering Agent
on Lotus Domino/Notes 8.5.You must enter the server name where the Spam Foldering Agent
is installed and proceed with the installation.
