Issue/Introduction

After importing an OU into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and attempting to use the Search Clients feature, you find that you are unable to query clients that do not have Endpoint Protection installed -- only those that do.

After manually importing a computer account into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and attempting to use the Search Clients feature, you find that you are unable to query clients that do not have Endpoint Protection installed -- only those that do.

Symptoms
The Search Clients feature is only able to find clients that have the Symantec Endpoint Protection software installed. It is unable to find clients that do not have the Symantec Endpoint Protection installed.

  • If you leave the Comparison Operator field blank, it will find all computers -- both those that do and do not have the software installed

Cause

The Search Clients feature is only able to search clients that are registered with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

By leaving the Comparison Operator field blank in the Search Clients screen it is only finding the place holders that are cached in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, not actually running a search.

Resolution

To find clients that do not have software already installed, or are otherwise unmanaged, you can utilize the Find Unmanaged Computers feature included with the software and found in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console.

For detailed information on how to use the Find Unmanaged Computers feature please refer to the following documents:

Or you can reference the documentation included with your software and refer to the installation_guide.pdf and administration_guide.pdf files.
