Issue/Introduction

You may also see the following messages appear later in the SYMC-install.log file:

WARNING: Could not find product package directory: /var/sadm/pkg/SYMCScan
Unable to move install language information file (install-lang.sh)

Cause

Two different causes have been recognized for this error.

1) You are trying to install into a "sparse" zone.

2) The installation script for Scan Engine unpacks itself in the present working directory. When the present working directory does not have file permissions of 755 (or "rwxr-xr-x"), then it is unable to perform its self-extraction. When the /var/sadm/pkg folder does not have file permissions of 755 (or "rwxr-xr-x"), then it is unable to add the SYMCScan package to the folder.

Resolution

Take the following steps in this order:

1) Ensure that you are installing to a full zone.

  • If install attempt is being made to a full zone, please skip to #2 below
  • If install attempt is being made to a "sparse" zone, please install into a full zone instead
  • If install now works at this point, the remaining steps (below) are not necessary

2) Modify permissions

  • Use the chmod command to change the permissions for the present working directory to 755
  • Use the cd command to navigate to a folder which already has 755 permissions.
  • Use the chmod command to change the permissions for the /var/sadm/pkg folder to 755 to permit installation as the root user.
  • Set the umask to the default of 022.
