Mail Security for Domino

Issue/Introduction

You want to know which sections are needed in the Symantec Mail Security for Domino .SLF License file in order to fully license the product.

Resolution

Symantec Mail Security (SMS) for Domino requires at least two or optionally three license 'types':

  • Product
  • Content
  • Premium AntiSpam

These licenses are generated by registering your Serial number in the licensing portal, https://licensing.symantec.com
This Serial number typically starts with a B or M, followed by 10 numbers, e.g. M0123456789.

Note: Symantec Licensing Portal provides licensing for versions 8.x. If you need a valid license for 7.5, please contact your local Customer Support Assistance:
http://www.symantec.com/support/assistance_care.jsp
Additionally, as stated in the End of Life policy, licensing for 7.5 will be discontinued in a future time.

Product License

The product license will list no expiration date and shows up as NONE (the SAVLOG.NSF or IBM Domino server command “tell SAV info” will reflect this attribute). This is normal. As long as the product license remains on the system, it will be unnecessary to renew it. Without the product license, the SMS for Domino will not be functional.

The product license will show in the license file as:

  • For versions 8.x
    <name>SMSDOM_MPE_ACTIVATION</name>
  • For versions 7.5 and older
    <name>SMSDOM_ACTIVATION</name>

Content License

The content license is a licensing type that usually requires an annual renewal. Each time the Maintenance Contract has been renewed, a new Serial Number will be provided. It will require registration of this new Serial Number in the licensing portal, https://licensing.symantec.com. It will generate a new license file that contains the new content license.

The content license has an expiration date and will show in the SAVLOG.NSF or IBM Domino server command “tell SAV info”. (Note: You may be required to perform a IBM Domino server command “tell sav quit”, followed by “load ntask”, SMS Domino will be reloaded and you can see events in SAVLOG.NSF updating the expiration date). Without the content license, SMS Domino will not download new AntiVirus definitions.

The content license will show in the license file as:

  • For versions 8.x
    <name>SMSDOM MPE AntiVirus Content</name>
  • For versions 7.5 and older
    <name>SAVD AntiVirus Content</name>

Regarding Premium AntiSpam (PAS) License

Optionally, the Premium AntiSpam (PAS) license is available as an additional license that can be purchased. This license allows you to enable Premium AntiSpam, download AntiSpam rulesets, and block spams.

This will show in the license file as:
<name>Brightmail AntiSpam Content</name>
