Issue/Introduction

When you run the runliveupdate.bat file to download available updates for the collector, you receive ERROR: Error returned while running liveupdate for Error code: -2001.

Cause

This is a Java LiveUpdate error meaning that there was an interruption in the communication with the LiveUpdate server. Java LiveUpdate is not configured to work through the proxy in the environment. Java LiveUpdate is configured correctly, but still not using the settings you gave it. The computer the collector and Agent are installed on cannot resolve the IP Address of the LiveUpdate server. Other network reasons not allowing Java LiveUpdate to connect to the LiveUpdate server.

Resolution

Java LiveUpdate is not configured to work with a proxy

To configure Java LiveUpdate on that collector computer to work with your proxy, read the Knowledge Base article: How do I set up a proxy server for LiveUpdate SSIM?
Note: On step 8 in the document, add the collector computer to the configurations Computers tab instead of the appliance.


Java LiveUpdate proxy configuration isn't being used

Name Resolution Problems

If the collector computer is unable to resolve an IP Address for the LiveUpdate server(s), you must fix the problem with DNS. As a work around you can modify the hosts file to include the LiveUpdate servers Name and IP Address.

By default, the hosts file in Windows is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
By default, the hosts file in Linux is located in /etc
