Introduction
A message identified as spam or suspected spam is handled according to your configuration of the Premium AntiSpam Actions.
Messages identified as suspected spam are also examined for a Spam Confidence Level (SCL). If the SCL value exceeds the threshold you have specified, Symantec Mail Security handles the message according to how you have configured the Suspected Spam and SCL settings.
Messages identified as suspected spam but that do not have an SCL value or when the SCL value is less than the threshold you have specified in the Suspected Spam and SCL settings, Symantec Mail Security handles the message according to have you have configured the Suspected Spam settings.
Handling spam messages
Symantec Premium AntiSpam has multiple options for handling spam messages.
To configure Symantec Premium AntiSpam to accept or reject spam messages
- On the primary navigation bar, click Policies.
- On the sidebar under "Antispam", click Premium AntiSpam Actions.
- In the content area, under "Spam Messages" and "If message is Spam", click Reject the message or Accept the message. A rejected message is not accepted by the SMTP server for delivery. The SMTP service that sends the message receives an error message for each rejected message. An accepted message is delivered normally unless additional message delivery options are configured for accepted spam messages.

This option is only active if Accept the message is selected. When this option is selected, a message that is identified as spam is accepted by the SMTP server and is deleted. It is not delivered to the addressees.
- To send spam messages to a different recipient, check the Deliver to alternate recipient(s) box and type in a fully qualified SMTP email address to which spam messages will be delivered. You can only enter one address.
- To add a subject line to spam messages, check the Add Subject Line box and accept the default or type new subject line text.
- To add an X-header to spam messages, check the Add X-header box and accept the defaults or type the X-header name and value in the X-header name and X-header value boxes.
- To assign an SCL to spam messages, check the Assign SCL value to message box and accept the default or select a number from the menu. If the incoming message has an existing SCL value, then the one you specify will replace it.
