SMSMSE is installed with the default port of 8081 for remote administration and wish to install a program that uses the port that SMSMSE is using. For example Microsoft Office SharePoint Server or Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services use port 8081.
This article provides step on how to change the port that SMSMSE uses.
Perform the following steps on each machine where SMSMSE is installed with Exchange:
1. Change the registry.
a. Change the value of the following registry key to a decimal value of a port that is unused:
32-bit Operating System: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\ServerPort
64-bit Operating System: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\ServerPort
NOTE: Change <version> to be the version of the SMSMSE software installed. For example to change the value for version 6.5 on a 64-bit system use the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Symantec\SMSMSE\6.5\Server\ServerPort
b. Restart the Symantec for Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange service.
2. Change IIS settings.
Windows 2003
1. Open Computer Management MMC.
2. Expand the Services and Applications tab.
3. Expand the Internet Information Services (IIS) tab.
4. Expand the Web Site tab.
5. Right-click on the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Site tab and select Properties.
6. Click on the Web Site tab in the snap-in.
7. In the TCP port field enter the new port number.
8. Restart IIS.
Windows 2008
1. Open the IIS Services Manager from the Start menu > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. Expand <Server Name> > Sites.
3. Right-Click Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange. Select Edit Bindings....
4. Highlight the existing port used by SMSMSE and click the Edit... button.
5. Enter the new port number and click the OK button. Then click the Close button.
5. Restart IIS.
3. Perform the following steps on each machine where the SMSMSE Administration Console is installed:
a. Open the SMSMSE console.
b. Click Tasks > Manage Assets.
c. Select the server you want to change.
d. Click Server properties.
e. Change the port number that is listed in the Port number box.
f. Click OK.
g. Click Close to close the Asset Management dialog box.
