Error: "Unable to install license sent from console because the file is invalid" occurs when attempting to install the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange license file

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to install the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) license file using the SMSME console, the following error is received:  "Unable to install license sent from console because the file is invalid".
 

Cause

The license file you have inserted does not contain entitlement for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange or Symantec Premium Antispam. This can occur when you do not register all serial numbers provided within the .PDF certificate. This also occurs when you insert a license for a different Symantec product.

 

Resolution

Be sure to register all of the serial numbers at https://licensing.symantec.com, then use the license file provided with that registration process.

Note: There may be additional serial numbers on the next page of the .PDF file sent by the Symantec Licensing Team which may not be obvious, as the previous page does not appear to be full.
