Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms
The installation of Symantec Mail Security fails and you see the following error message:

"Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action Start_IIS, location: C:\WINNT\system32\, command: iisreset /START"

Resolution

A reported cause of this error is Installshield. Renaming the numbered folders in the drivers folder allows the installation to update Installshield files.

To rename numbered folders

  1. Open Windows Explorer and go to:
    <drive>:\program files\common files\Installshield\drivers
  2. In the right pane, right-click a numbered folder and click rename.
    Change the name to Xold.

Where Xold is the number of the folder like 1 and you add the text old. The result is 1old.

  3. Rename all numbered folders.
  4. Run the installation.
    Installshield files should now update.
