Issue/Introduction

I receive the following error:

1918 Error installing ODBC Driver
Error installing ODBC driver: [4], ODBC error [2]: [3]. Verify that the file [4] exists and that you can access it.

Cause

Windows Installer is having difficulty configuring SQL servers from the ODBC table or other non-Microsoft ODBC servers.

Resolution

Resolution 1: Sort through the Driver Attributes and try to determine which value is invalid. You can determine invalid attributes by installing the original .exe then checking the attributes in the ODBC page under Administrative Tools. Ensure that the attributes match.

Resolution 2: Manually add the Data Source information via the Registry Page:

  1. Remove the ODBC information on the ODBC page of the installation expert.
  2. After installing the original .exe, locate the ODBC registry keys at HKLM_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC.INI and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBCINST.INI.
  3. Export the keys into a .reg file.
  4. Go to the registry section of the Installation Expert of the project and import the .reg file.
