Issue/Introduction

Description:

when running a vertica database save the following errors are encountered

/opt/vertica/bin/vbr.py --task backup --config-file /opt/SA/db/backup/backup_snapshot.ini

WARNING 4221: object_snapshot failed attempt=1: AHM advanced beyond snapshot epoch
HINT: Tried snapshot epoch: 2665428. Retrying up to 4 times
WARNING 4221: object_snapshot failed attempt=2: AHM advanced beyond snapshot epoch
HINT: Tried snapshot epoch: 2665593. Retrying up to 3 times
WARNING 4221: object_snapshot failed attempt=3: AHM advanced beyond snapshot epoch
HINT: Tried snapshot epoch: 2666496. Retrying up to 2 times

Solution:

Remove "object = public" from the backup config, (backup_snapshot.ini)
In this case the file name was /opt/SA/db/backup/backup_snapshot.ini, your .ini file name may vary.
Note that it is very important to do this. Although having the value in place was the method documented in earlier versions, it has beenshown since then to be capable of causing DA corruption.
