Issue/Introduction

Cause

By default the firewall in Windows 2008 is blocking the ports 69 UDP (Altiris PXE MTFTP Server service) and 4011 UDP (Altiris PXE Server service).

Blocked  port 69 (UDP) will cause: PXE-E32: TFTP open timeout
Blocked  port  4011 (UDP) will cause: PXE-E74: No MAN_INFO or OS_INFO options found

Resolution

To resolve this issue you have the following three options:

  • Create an exception in the Windows 2008 firewall for the ports used by the two services only:
69 UDP (Altiris PXE MTFTP Server service)
4011 UDP (Altiris PXE Server service)
  • Create a general exception in the Windows 2008 firewall for the following two executables
    …\eXpress\Deployment Server\PXE\PXEMftp.exe
    …\eXpress\Deployment Server\PXE\PXEService.exe
  • Turn off the Windows 2008 firewall.

If the problem persists, please refer to KB #44239 respectively KB #1334
