Issue/Introduction

While trying to add a parent or child server to the hierarchy the following message comes up.

No Package Server Detected - Neither the local nor target Notification Servers has a Package Server within its site boundary. In order for package distribution over hierarchy to work, it is required that each Notification Server participating in Hierarchy have at least one package server within its site boundary.

Environment

ITMS 7.x - 8.x

Cause

The ITMS requires that both the parent and the child Notification Server have an associated site server that is mapped to the same site. When there is no site server designated in the same site (under site properties) this blocking message will occur.

Resolution

Add a site server with package services enabled to the same site as the Notification Server.

Note: In some cases, overlapping subnets may cause the Notification Server to not see that there is a site server in the same site as the Notification Server.  In this case remove subnets like 10.0.0.0 with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 or 0.0.0.0.
