Unable to install NS 7 Agent - 'Finished Download: Failed'

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to NS 7 SP2, we are unable to push install the NS Agent. We ensured that the pre-requisites for Push install were met (Firewall disabled, File and print sharing enabled, Simple file sharing DISABLED) and tried again with no success.

Looking at the Install log on the client (found under C:\WINDOWS\AltirisAgentInstSvc.log), we see the following error messages:

Cause

The IIS Execute Permissions on the Altiris\NS\NSCap\Bin\Win32\X86\NS Client Package Virtual directory were set to Scripts and Executables instead of Scripts only. This caused the client machines to not be able to download the Agent from the NS. 

The Default is to have the Altiris site set to Scripts Only:

 

Resolution

We changed the IIS Execute Permissions on the Altiris\NS\NSCap\Bin\Win32\X86\NS Client Package Virtual directory to Scripts only.

After adjusting the Execute Permissions, the client machines were able to download the Agent package successfully.
