Issue/Introduction

When installing Symantec Management Platform (SMP Server) via Symantec Installation Manager (SIM), the following error appears during the database configuration wizard:
The login is not associated with a server role having privileges to create databases. Select a different server or specify a different login with appropriate privileges.

When trying to create a new database using a SQL login that has DBcreator server role:

'The login <user> is not associated with a server role having privileges to create databases. Select a different server or specify a different login with appropriate privileges.'

Environment

ITMS 7.x, 8.x

Cause

SIM processes are not able to validate the SQL server login selected during installation. The user(s) must be added to the appropriate SQL security role.

Resolution

  1. Launch SQL Management Studio.

  2. Right-click on the user and select 'Properties'

  3. Go to 'Server Roles'

  4. Mark 'public' and 'dbcreator'

  5. In SIM, select to install 'Symantec Management Platform'

  6. On the Database Configuration dialog, select 'Use SQL Server login' and specify the user name and password for the user created above

  7. Click Next.
