Issue/Introduction

Trying to install new licenses results in errors:

  • If using "Path to license folder", the error "No license files found (note, license files must have a ".txt" extension)" occurs.
  • If using "Paste contents of Licenses below", the error "Unable to install the certificate. Please obtain a valid license and try again.
    " occurs.

No licenses are able to be installed. Issues with Altiris solutions, such as the Helpdesk not being able to create new incidents, may also occur. Reviewing the Altiris log, licensing errors appear such as the following "Unable to retrieve license information".

Removing and re-installing licenses fails to resolve the issue.

Logs have error : Class not registered

Cause

The Notification Server Licensing DLL has become corrupted.

Resolution

Perform a repair install of the Notification Server and its hotfix. Note: This will bring down the Altiris services and functionality while thisl solution is being performed.

  1. The first step in repairing the Notification Server: in Windows, go to Add or remove programs. Locate the Altiris Notification Server entry. Click on this program and then click Change.
  2. Click to choose Repair.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. To repair the hotfix, in Windows, go to Add or Remove Programs. Locate the hotfix, which will have a name similar to "Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 Update (KBxxxxx)", where xxxxx equals a Knowledge Base number. Click on this program and then click on the Change button.
  6. Click to choose Repair.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. The second step in repairing the Notification Server: in Internet Explorer on the server, navigate to http://localhost/altiris/ns/install/NSSetup.aspx.
  10. Click Next to navigate through the pages.
  11. Click Finish on the last page to start the repair. Note: This may take time to complete. (This can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour or more, depending on the speed of the server and other factors.)
  12. To restart the Notification Server (which was stopped during the above process), in the Altiris Console, go to the Configuration tab (or if you are using the 6.5 Console, View > Configuration).
  13. Click on Server Settings > Notification Server Settings > Advanced Settings.
  14. Click Enable Notification Server Processing.
  15. Click on the Apply button.
  16. To install licenses, from the Configuration page, click on Licensing. The installation of new licenses should now be working.
  17. Verify that license errors no longer appear in the Altiris log, and that any affected solutions are now working correctly.
