Symantec Installation Manager 7 (SIM7) cannot access internet to download files

Issue/Introduction

 When I open SIM, I get a message that SIM cannot locate the Internet to download any files.

The IE7 browser can reach the Internet through our proxy server OK, but SIM will not, even when I try to add the proxy server IP address into the field in the configuration settings of SIM.

Cause

Customer had enabled access to the http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/pl/symantec.pl.xml URL on their network but not for the http://lindon.extranet.altiris.com/eval_license_broker/get_licenses.asmx url as per registry location HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM\Licensing

Resolution

Once the customer's network allowed access to http://lindon.extranet.altiris.com/eval_license_broker/get_licenses.asmx SIM started working properly.
