PXE Manager Service fails stating "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

Issue/Introduction

When you right-click on the stopped PXE Manager Service and attempt to start, it fails stating: "Could not start the Altiris PXE Server service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Cause

Issue caused by incorrect permissions or password

Resolution

Look at the logon Service account in Windows Services for PXE Manager. It will show the account being used. Add this account to the Security NTFS permissions for eXpress Share and ensure the password set on the service is correct.

 

1. Right-click on the eXpress share, scroll to Properties > Security, and add the account.
2. Reboot the GSS and PXE server

 

When it reboots within the Windows Services, right-click on the PXE Manager service and restart. It will restart with no issue within a second or two.
