Issue/Introduction

To install Windows PE:

Use the option to Add Preboot within the PXE configuration when you create a New WinPE Boot image. Deployment Solution 6.9 supports only WinPE 2.1 build 6.0.6001.18000.

During the process to install the WinPE the wizard errors out stating, "No Operating System Found," "waikinst.bat error code 255," and 'Missing operating system files."

Resolution

Make sure the WinPE 2.1 installers for x86 (32-bit), x64 (64-bit), and ia64 (Itanium) are saved to the Desktop or eXpress share. The installer will not install if the executable is saved to a remote share. When referecing the source file through BDC do not use UNC paths.

If you receive an error message the wimfltr driver needs to be installed. Go to the directory for WAIK\X86\wimfltr.inf and right click to 'Install' If the Deployment Server is installed on a Windows 2003 64-bit and install the wimfltr.infx64.

In one situation the wimfltr.inf file was blank.  In this case, copying the contents over from a functioning server resolved the issue.
