Issue/Introduction

How to recover from error "User PostgreSQL could not be created, the password is too short or not complex enough"?

Cause

When Appstream Server is installed together with PostgreSQL Database, the installation fails if the PostgreSQL user’s password does not comply with the Group Policy settings.

Resolution

The following options are available:
  1. Disable the Group Policy restrictions on that computer. Navigate to Control Panel > Administrative tools > Local security settings > Account Policy > Password Policy > Password; it must meet complexity requirements. Double-click this option to disable. Install the Appstream Server.
  2. Disable the Group Policy restrictions (follow above), install the Appstream Server, change the PostgreSQL user password (below) and then enable GPOs again.
    • To change the PostgreSQL user password, go to Services > PostgreSQL database server 8.2 > Properties > Logon > This Account > Password.
    • Go to My computer > Manage > Local user and Groups > Postgres. Right-click and choose Set password.
