Issue/Introduction

Recovery Server Installation fails with error "25001: configuration of SQL database components failed".

Cause

The Recovery Server installation fails with error "25001: configuration of SQL database components failed" only if Recovery Server installation is initiated via Terminal Session (TS).

Resolution

If Recovery Server Setup is launched by pull method (Setup.exe launched from \\NSServer\\NSCap\Bin\Win32\X86\Recovery Server Package) then its execution is performed with 2 phases: under logged on user context and then under local system account.

The system behavior launched via Terminal Session under user context is changed according local Group policies for Terminal Service. So Recovery Server Setup launched under Terminal Session has created the different temp folders under user and system context since policy "Use separate temporary folders for each session" was set.

In order to install Recovery Server via Terminal Session the following steps should be perfomed:

  1. Open Group Policy.
  2. In Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Terminal Services>-Temporary folders: double-click the "Do not use temp folders per session setting".
  3. To disable the creation of a separate temporary folder for each terminal server session, click Enabled. To enable the creation of a separate temporary folder for each terminal server session, click Disabled.
  4. Click OK.
