Issue/Introduction

The error, "Could not run signcode.exe. Please make sure that the ActiveX SDK is installed on this computer and that signcode.exe is located in the Windows directory," appears when attempting to compile the installation.

Cause

ActiveX SDK is not installed on the computer or signcode.exe is not located in the Windows directory.

Resolution

Verify that signcode.exe is located in the Windows directory. If this file already exists, verify that Microsoft's digital signing tool (the ActiveX SDK), now known as Authenticode, exists on the development computer. Download the Authenticode tool for Internet Explorer 4.0 or Internet Explorer 5.0. In addition, you must also have a platform-specific Code Signing ID from the certificate authority. For more information on code signing, please refer to issuers' website. For more information on Authenticode, please refer to Microsoft's Web site.

Note:  If you are not pointing to the correct location where the Credential Files and Priviate Key Files are located in the Digital Signature page of Installation Expert, you may also see this message.  Check to ensure that the path to the Credential Files and Priviate Key Files are pointing to the right directory that holds these files.
