Issue/Introduction

When running Deployment Solution for Dell jobs in WinPE, they fail with the error, "The system cannot find the file specified."

Cause

This typically happens with the default WinPE image created by Deployment Solution. The drive letter assigned to the eXpress share by default is F. Some Dell servers have so many devices (hard disks, CD drives, and so on) that once WinPE is done mounting them all, drive letter F is already taken. This causes the mounting of the eXpress share to fail. Once the job runs, it tries to access the script from the eXpress share (F) and can't find the file because the eXpress share didn't mount.

Resolution

The jobs that come with Deployment Solution for Dell Servers 3.0 and 3.0SP1 are designed to run in a customized WinPE environment that includes the Dell OEM extensions. Whenever a job is run, the system should boot into this customize WinPE environment. A server that is not in the Deployment Solution database may initially deploy into the default WinPE automation. If the error occurs when running a job, reboot the client and try running the job again. This should cause it to boot into the correct WinPE environment.
